6 Weeks
Did another week really go by already? Again, the same ol', same ol' here. Owen is doing wonderfully! It's amazing how much development a baby goes through in such a short time! He's not as bobble-heady and able to hold his head up and look you in the eye now. He smiles so much now - even though it's usually 7am when he decides to do so - and he's started this little giggle-thing when he smiles. So Cute! He likes to talk, and scream when he's hungry...and he's hungry all the time. How much/how often to feed is always a concern of mine - I don't want to over feed him and end up with a belly ache, but I don't want to starve the kid either! He is definitely spoiled by everyone and he is loving every minute of it.

Week 5
These past couple of weeks have really been challenging. Last Tuesday I re-started school. I used to enjoy school - like sickening so. Now, I feel irritated when I have to go, that I could be doing a million other things that are so much more relevant to life instead of sitting at that cramped desk. I know that it is important to finish so that way I can be a college graduate and make good money and help people reach their optimal level of health...blah, blah, blah. The mantra I constantly repeat to myself is: Only 2 more semesters. On top of being irritated with the whole school process, I have to leave Owen almost every day. It's not that I'm scared of leaving him, because I completely trust my babysitters (Hi, y'all!), but I just don't want to leave him! He's so little, and I may miss something or he may need me.
On that note: It's amazing how huge the little word "mom" is. It's only 3 letters, but it is his whole world (and mine too). Mom is the one you go to for comfort, for help, for food...you know. There are times when I still want my mom for those things, and now I'm suppose to provide that for someone. Wow. It's overwhelming. This little person is going to depend on me to teach him the important things in life, to make sure his clothes are clean, to know where that other shoe is. I have to be the strong one during storms now (eek!). All that and more is wrapped up in a single word that you take on in a matter of a short time. I suppose you could try to prepare for the indescribable feelings during your life and pregnancy, but you can never truly know what to expect until that little one looks at you with those eyes that say "you're my mom."
Okay, off my tangent and onto my struggles: So, on top of school, yesterday I got a flat tire. My first. I freaked out. (ask Nick and Matt) And then it snowed. A lot. So we had to suck it up and deal with our first "emergency" as parents. I think we did okay. And Matt showed me again why I love him so much. He really pulled through for me. And now I have 4 brand new tires and feel much better. Through all that I have been trying to withhold my temper, be calmer and more in control, and not kill our cats. Yeah, still got a long way to go.

Month One
Has it really been a month since Owen has entered our lives? Where, oh where has the time gone?! If it's going this fast now, what is life going to be like in a year, 5 years, 10 years, etc.? I couldn't keep up before a baby, you can imagine that now I am frantically playing catch up!
For those who don't know, or those who just want to hear it again: Owen Matthew Lacy was born on December 23, 2008 at 8:19am. He was 7lbs 6oz and 19 1/2" long. Because he was breech, I had a c-section. I had about 12 hours to prepare for this surgery...not a lot of time! We came home from the hospital on Christmas morning and were very blessed with both of our families being there plus a full Christmas dinner!
*As a side note, I really want to thank everyone - again - for all the visits and well-wishes and support those first few days (both in the hospital and at home). Matt and I are extremely blessed to have such people in our lives!*
Since then Owen's gotten adjusted to life here on Earth. He eats constantly! At his last dr. appointment on Tuesday, he weighed 9lbs 8oz and was 21 1/2" long. His eyes are still a deep blue-gray and his hair has a red-ish tint to it. While he was born with a full head of hair, he has recently developed a receding hairline (making him look like Dr Phil according to Bekah). He sleeps pretty good - most of the time (!). Seriously, though, he is a very content, happy baby. Matt and I lucked out. The two of us are balancing work and school and baby and, well, life. Most of what we once knew has gone completely out the window, but we feel so much more complete with our l'il man. I will try to keep - somewhat - regular posts about Owen and life, and most of these post will probably be written at 3am! C'est la vie!

Week 38 Day 4
So, I've been pretty lousy on keeping up with my blogging, especially - theoretically - I have nothing to do. School ended last Tuesday, and work before that. So what exactly have I been doing...??
Laundry: So much laundry. Besides Matt and my constant pile (which is larger right now because of "the project"), I've got all the bedding and clothing and blankets and towels washed for Baby. However, only the towels are put away, and even those will be moved tomorrow when we install the new shelves in the bathroom closet.
Sleeping: I have taken naps every day for the past three days. I have been just exhausted to the point of sitting down on the couch and falling asleep. That and I've been having irritating headaches that are relieved by sleep. Ah, the perfect medicine...
Errands: I've been to Big Lots, The Dollar Tree, K-Mart, Busy Beaver, Home Depot, and Walmart the past couple of days, buying 'little' things that are 'needed' and stocking up on things like toilet paper and cat food. You know, the necessities... :)
Doctor Appointments: I already told you about last weeks. So this week I was all prepared for the doc to tell me that everything looked fine and I had dilated more and we were going to have a baby for Christmas. Everything is still fine health-wise with me and the baby, I am just not progressing as quickly as he or I wanted/expected. Which results in disappointment on my end. And an ultrasound crammed in on Monday before I see the doc again on Monday morning. From what the doctor said, he is just checking the baby's development and growth, making sure that he's where he's suppose to be. And like I was discussing with a friend today: he probably wants to see if any inducing can happen so that I don't call him on Christmas morning saying "I need you at the hospital!"
Little Projects: Such as getting the diaper bag stocked, preparing a "diaper changing" basket/station for downstairs, putting together the stroller, and installing the car seat base in the car...
The Project: For those of you who don't know, we are currently "under construction", meaning our bedroom which is also the baby's room has been in the process of being remodeled. Currently it is drywalled and mudded; needless to say, it has consumed our evenings.
While I feel like I haven't done anything, I guess I really have. It has been tough going from a 7-day a week schedule to...nothing. I know, I know that will all change anytime now, but still. I'm a do-er. Feel free to drop by and bring your unwrapped Christmas presents, they will be wrapped for you by the time you leave!

Week 37 Day 3
Doctor update:
So after being super frustrated after last week's appointment because I had to wait 2 hours in order to see the doc for 15 minutes...today went rather smoothly. Total weight gain is 32lbs. I'm averaging a pound a week which is on target. Baby's heartbeat sounded good, and...dadaduh! I am 1 cm dilated. Yep one whole centimeter. I think poor Matt hit the ground when I messaged him that bit of news. :) But like the doc said, that could mean any day now or a few more weeks. The baby has definitely dropped (as Matt explained to a single friend: her belly doesn't touch her boobs anymore.), and I've been having consistent back pain for the past few days. So, we'll see!

Week 37 Day 1
Things I've learned about The Baby Bump:
- It's never symmetrical - So, I used to think that a pregnancy belly was just this soft, round basketball like area that grew on your abdomen. Little did I know that it is never evenly round, and rarely soft. Actually I think my belly has been off-center ever since it started showing. The baby likes to sit on the right side, so my right side always sticks out a little more than the left.
- It itches - Like, crazy itches. Like, "Lotion-will-not-cure-this" itches. Trust me, I've tried.
- Random hairs grow - Unless I am just really strange, every once and a while, a long black hair grows somewhere off my belly. (T.M.I., I know)
- The belly button is just gross - Not only is it super sensitive to anything that it rubs against, it looks just...well...gross. And I've been told it never looks the same again; as long as it eventually dents back in, I'll be okay.
