A friend of the family's 23 year old daughter had her baby last night.
I am so jealous...

Week 38 Day 4
So, I've been pretty lousy on keeping up with my blogging, especially - theoretically - I have nothing to do. School ended last Tuesday, and work before that. So what exactly have I been doing...??
Laundry: So much laundry. Besides Matt and my constant pile (which is larger right now because of "the project"), I've got all the bedding and clothing and blankets and towels washed for Baby. However, only the towels are put away, and even those will be moved tomorrow when we install the new shelves in the bathroom closet.
Sleeping: I have taken naps every day for the past three days. I have been just exhausted to the point of sitting down on the couch and falling asleep. That and I've been having irritating headaches that are relieved by sleep. Ah, the perfect medicine...
Errands: I've been to Big Lots, The Dollar Tree, K-Mart, Busy Beaver, Home Depot, and Walmart the past couple of days, buying 'little' things that are 'needed' and stocking up on things like toilet paper and cat food. You know, the necessities... :)
Doctor Appointments: I already told you about last weeks. So this week I was all prepared for the doc to tell me that everything looked fine and I had dilated more and we were going to have a baby for Christmas. Everything is still fine health-wise with me and the baby, I am just not progressing as quickly as he or I wanted/expected. Which results in disappointment on my end. And an ultrasound crammed in on Monday before I see the doc again on Monday morning. From what the doctor said, he is just checking the baby's development and growth, making sure that he's where he's suppose to be. And like I was discussing with a friend today: he probably wants to see if any inducing can happen so that I don't call him on Christmas morning saying "I need you at the hospital!"
Little Projects: Such as getting the diaper bag stocked, preparing a "diaper changing" basket/station for downstairs, putting together the stroller, and installing the car seat base in the car...
The Project: For those of you who don't know, we are currently "under construction", meaning our bedroom which is also the baby's room has been in the process of being remodeled. Currently it is drywalled and mudded; needless to say, it has consumed our evenings.
While I feel like I haven't done anything, I guess I really have. It has been tough going from a 7-day a week schedule to...nothing. I know, I know that will all change anytime now, but still. I'm a do-er. Feel free to drop by and bring your unwrapped Christmas presents, they will be wrapped for you by the time you leave!

Week 37 Day 3
Doctor update:
So after being super frustrated after last week's appointment because I had to wait 2 hours in order to see the doc for 15 minutes...today went rather smoothly. Total weight gain is 32lbs. I'm averaging a pound a week which is on target. Baby's heartbeat sounded good, and...dadaduh! I am 1 cm dilated. Yep one whole centimeter. I think poor Matt hit the ground when I messaged him that bit of news. :) But like the doc said, that could mean any day now or a few more weeks. The baby has definitely dropped (as Matt explained to a single friend: her belly doesn't touch her boobs anymore.), and I've been having consistent back pain for the past few days. So, we'll see!

Week 37 Day 1
Things I've learned about The Baby Bump:
- It's never symmetrical - So, I used to think that a pregnancy belly was just this soft, round basketball like area that grew on your abdomen. Little did I know that it is never evenly round, and rarely soft. Actually I think my belly has been off-center ever since it started showing. The baby likes to sit on the right side, so my right side always sticks out a little more than the left.
- It itches - Like, crazy itches. Like, "Lotion-will-not-cure-this" itches. Trust me, I've tried.
- Random hairs grow - Unless I am just really strange, every once and a while, a long black hair grows somewhere off my belly. (T.M.I., I know)
- The belly button is just gross - Not only is it super sensitive to anything that it rubs against, it looks just...well...gross. And I've been told it never looks the same again; as long as it eventually dents back in, I'll be okay.

Week 35 Day 3
Doctor Update:
So, now I get to go to the doc every week. And every week I get to get 'checked'. Yea! (rolling eyes here) But anyways. 30 total pounds. No longer severely dehydrated. Heart beat's good. Baby's head down, which means that hard lump that is forever in my bottom right ribs is the baby's butt. At least now I know where to swat at.
And...today was the last day of work!! YAY!! I am sooooooo glad, too, because it is officially crazy there.

Week 34 Day 5
Thank goodness Ashley Simpson didn't chose one of my names for her new baby boy! (No, Bronx is not on my list!) I'd really be upset with her if she had ruined my choices...

Week 34 Day 2
Second post in one day; guess I'm making up for my slacking over the last week! Anyways, had a usual doc appointment today and wanted to update you real fast. I've gained 5 more pounds (28 total lbs for those keeping track). He said I'm badly dehydrated, probably from being sick over the weekend. Regardless, I need to drink a ton of water - doctor's orders. But the baby's heartbeat is fine he said, and as long as the baby is moving around fine, I should have nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, I now have to go to the doctor every week, because we're in "crunch time" (his words, not mine!). Fortunately, another week and my schedule opens up nicely!
Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which she'll need to regulate her body temperature once she's born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies. (BabyCenter)
Week 34 Day 2
Let me tell you: having the flu while pregnant is NOT fun! I thought I was being sooooo careful at work on Wednesday and Thursday, taking good precautions so I wouldn't get sick. I was even feeling great on Thursday afternoon. Matt and I went to bed around 9 (I know, really early!), and I woke back up around 10:45 sicker than sick. I actually called the hospital, asking what I should do, I had been sick that long! Of course, after I did that I fell asleep, but was up every hour after still! I was finally emptied-out around the time Matt left for work, and I spent all of Friday in bed. Literally. I got up maybe 3 times: 1. my mom brought me ginger ale & gatorade, 2. made chicken soup around 2p, 3. took a shower around 7p. Then I slept thru the night until my alarm went off for work on Saturday morning. By Sunday I wasn't feeling queazy anymore, even though I still can't eat large quanities of food.
Not that you all wanted to know all those details. It coulda been worse! :)
Then on Sunday, I had me second shower given to me by the girls at work. Man, they spoiled me! This baby is set when it comes to adorable clothes and shampoo. Best smelling and dressed baby there will be! Thanks to Brittanie I have some pictures to share:

Week 33 Day 2
I don't think I have much to update. Hum. Other than hurting and being tired all the time, things are great. The belly button hasn't "popped" yet. I was told the other day that I look "Damn good for being 8 months." (Yay!) I had my first true craving the other night: Chicken fingers with honey mustard sauce. Not the crappy fast-food chicken nugget things, but real, breaded, fried chicken fingers. And my dear husband made sure that I got them.
I'm starting to be able to relax a little, even though I'm still pretty high strung. (that doesn't really make much sense huh?) I don't feel tense/stressed/uptight, even though I have the tendency to freak out easier/sooner. (does that help?) At the same time, however, I am starting to get seriously nervous/anxious/excited about life "after birth." I just can't sit and think about it, and then I'm not dwelling on the subject.
In other news: Matt's taking one of his certification tests tomorrow for work. It's a big deal (think: SAT/ACT in high school). So please keep your thoughts and prayers with him tomorrow.
AND: Elizabeth has only 9 more "work" days left at work!!

Week 32 Day 3
Yesterday, Matt was able to go to the doctor with me! It was his first visit, and the poor thing was sicker than a dog. He's completely lost his voice (though thought to be a blessing, is really a curse for all you women who have taken care of a sick man...) for 2 days now. But anyways. He got to meet the doctor- who kept making fun of Matt by trying to get him to talk! -and see the entire boring process I go through every 2 weeks. Weight's good; 23 pounds total. The Doc was pleased with my work-related news, and the heartbeat was strong and fast again. When I told him that the baby has found more sensitive areas to round-house kick, he shrugged and snickered. Thanks for your sympathy, dude!
I just have to say: I haven't been to work since last Thursday, and it is wonderful! I'm kinda dreading going back tomorrow, but I know that I only have to make that horrible drive 12 more times!

Week 32 Day 2
I realized today that I can't put on my socks normally anymore. Standing up while bending in half and kicking foot forward results in: nothing. Except Elizabeth almost loosing her balance. So I had to innovate and reach behind me while kicking the said foot backwards and trying to dangle sock enough to get foot into it. What an experience.

Week 32 Day 1
First off: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all of you who helped throw my wonderful shower on Saturday! It was so nice!
Second thing: To all of you who were there and had cameras- I know you took pictures. I want them! My e-mail address is widerbiff@hotmail.com. Please send me copies!!
Okay, anyways. The shower on Saturday was so fun! I now have leftover sweets and broccoli and chips (the cheese dip is gone already, Aunt Nat!) sitting in my kitchen. They will for sure be eaten, but there are so many no-bake cookies! Anybody wanna come over and steal some, feel free! We got so many cute outfits (and shoes !), and some much needed necessities. I'd take pictures of things, but they are all sitting in their bags in the living room, packed away so the cats don't think the stuff is for them! Matt even had fun going through the loot with me later (he's not usually so inclined...) and was a constant barrage of questions: What's that for? Why's that like that? etc.

Week 31 Day 5
It's been a crazy/hectic week. Let's see:
Saturday: was sick (I think from heartburn) early in the morning. Then went to work.
Sunday: fell down the stairs. EVERYTHING"S FINE!!! I don't know what was up (or down, haha!), but somehow I missed or slid on a step and then skidded on my bum down 5 or 6 more. I woke Matt up with my shriek, but just walked it off and went to work. (oh, yeah, all this happened before 6 am!) I came home from work finding my dad putting the treads on the stairs. I had to reassure him that it wasn't his fault (Matt blames my slippers).
Monday: After crying to Matt about having nothing to wear for the baby shower on Saturday, he came home and said "We're going to get you clothes. Erie or Mentor?" So, we drove up to Erie and hit up Old Navy finding many deals to spend my birthday money on. Matt's relieved that I found shirts to wear, and he warned me that he should not hear me complain about having nothing to wear...!
Tuesday & Wednesday: Nothing spectacular happened, just school, home, work, etc.
Thursday: Gave my 3 weeks notice at work. *Phew* I was quite relieved that she accepted it so well, but she pretty much said that she expected it any day. She also said that if I wanted to pick up hours after I got settled with baby/new school schedule, she'd be more than happy to work with me.
And today is Halloween. I dislike Halloween and the kids in my neighborhood are royal brats, so I will not be handing out candy. I will be purchasing candy (Particularly Reese's peanut butter cups...oooo, craving those!) and eating it myself! However, since it is Halloween, Matt cannot wait until next year when he can dress up his son and take him around for candy. A 10 month old! We all know who will be eating that candy! And yes, there are particular holidays when the baby will be his son: Halloween, 4th of July, and fishing season.

Week 30 Day 5
Hello, hello!
So, first a Miles update: he's fine. Home and recovering. Slowly. He cuddles a lot more which relieves me because I thought he'd be mad at me forever. He still gets pain meds twice daily, so that kinda conks him out. And he walks funny, but he's still our baby (right now).
On Wednesday I had a doctor appointment again. Nothing new really: belly is right size, heartbeat is strong and good, doc is happy that I'm quitting soon. I gained four more pounds, which puts me at 143--24 total weight gain. I asked him if I was on track with that, and he said I was fine and had nothing to worry about. He wished aloud that everyone were as easy as me. (I think that was meant in the best was possible...!)
Yesterday, we got the Spring semester schedule for our PTA classes. I'm stressing and trying to figure out a way to convince my mum to quit her job...(dad, you did not just read that!) There are times when I think that if the baby were here, things would be a lot easier, because I wouldn't be in limbo with my decisions all the time. With him here, I'd be able to have him, see him, and be able to figure out where to go from here and what to do. Instead, I'm basing my decisions on hypothesizes and "what if"s.
It'll all be okay; there's only 65 more days or something like that!

Week 30 Day 2
Early today I had to drop Miles off for his little surgery. I was fine, got him in the car and cozy, drove to the vet, carried him in, said hello to the receptionist. Then she took him to the back so she could have me fill out the paperwork, and I lost it! He was being so sweet because he was so scared, cuddling up on my neck, crying and purring. He didn't want to let go! When she was getting him settled in the back, I let myself have a few tears and then wiped my eyes for when she got back. I allowed the waterworks to come when I finally got back to my car.
Then, that got me thinking: what the devil am I going to be like in January when I have to go back to school and leave the baby with somebody? I love Miles to pieces, but I didn't carry him for 9 months, he's not my flesh and blood. If I bawl because he's scared and I don't want to leave him, how am I going to be when the baby's crying (or not crying) and I have to leave him? I don't know if I can do this...

Week 30 Day 1
Your uterus is at your breastbone and rib cage.
Your baby now gains about ½ pound and ½ inch each week until she is born. She now weighs about 3 pounds and measures 10.8 inches from crown to rump. If you stretched her legs out, she would be about 16 inches long. Her fat deposits double so her creased skin starts to fill out. Her skin starts to shed the lanugo and the hair on her eyebrows, eyelids and head continue to grow. She can blink her eyes and her pupils react to outside light by constricting and dilating. During the next few weeks, your baby experiences REM and non-REM sleep patterns as her brain continues its rapid growth. (babytobee.com)Yes, I know my uterus is now at my breastbone and rib cage. I can feel every movement right there. I can't believe that the baby is about 16 inches long already! Especially since the average length at birth is 19-21 inches. He's only got about 4 more inches to grow! Crazy thought! However, he's still got about 5 pounds to put on. Really that doesn't sound like a lot, but it's the size of Miles. That's a lot. And all in 10 weeks. 10 more weeks. Wow.
Tomorrow is my last pre-baby birthday. It's not really even pre-baby because I cannot drink. (not that I'd drink a lot, but a Strawberry Margarita sounds nice.) Anyways. It's not that exciting as it has been for the past 22 years. Is that a sign of getting old? Or is the stress just getting to me?
10 more weeks...

Week 29 Day 6
Hello, Hello!
I just got back from creating a registry at Walmart. So, for all those not impressed with the Babies R Us registry, there is now one at Walmart, too; one that has a bit more of the smaller necessities. Now remember, I also have no clue what I will need daily or how much I will actually need. So, if the registry says that I only want one package of onsies and you think I will need/use more, then please! Buy me another package! I also did not put anything outfit-wise or shoe-wise on there because I think you should use your own descretion when picking out said items. I currently have one 10 gallon rubbermaid container of hand-me-downs size 0-3 months, an infant bath-tub, a walker, a bouncer seat, one of those kidney bean shaped pillows, the cradle, and a couple random blankets/shirts that people have given me as gifts. That's all folks! You have free reign!

Week 29 Day 1
Where did the past week go? Seriously. It seems like I had just updated, and I just checked and it's been almost a week tomorrow that I've been on here. Eeks. Sorry, but in all honesty, not all that much has been happening. Matt's been working crazy overtime...I really feel bad for him. In the meantime, I've been working, studying, cleaning (the house was a mess), and catching up with some friends that I haven't had a chance to talk to in a while. The next couple weeks or so are "midterms" time, so I've been stressing/studying for tests like crazy. Yet, still with all that I'm doing, the only time I feel overwhelmed is when I'm a work. Thank goodness there' s not too much longer to go...
Physically, I've got another cold brewing. I love fall for this exact reason...The Sniffles. (I'm just kidding, folks.) Ug. Not to mention that my insides right around my bottom ribs feel like they are permanently bruised. But the baby moves all the time, at random times, and it is SO COOL!

Week 28 Day 2
It's been two weeks already and it's time for another doctor update!
Thank goodness it was a quick trip this time, my appointment was at 3:15 and I got back to my car at 3:52! Impressive Dr. L! I gained 4 more pounds. Heard the baby's heartbeat and him moving around, active little guy with a strong, fast heartbeat! The doctor is very pleased with everything, and I made him smile when I told him that the baby is sitting up under my rib. His quote: "That's good. He's getting bigger!"
So now that I'm officially 7 months, he wants to see me every two weeks. (Like that hasn't been happening already) I think he just likes me...:)

Week 28 Day 1
7 months!
I've thought of every way to write this blog so that it doesn't make me sound like a whiny baby. I don't want to complain; it's not the point of this. But...I hurt. My sides right under my lower ribs hurt. Especially the right side. My bum hurts. Like deep inside. My feet fall asleep all the time. The skin over my belly itches. And as much as it is bad for the baby, I really want to use the traction machine in the PT lab at school to stretch/separate my vertebrae.
Phew. Sorry. It feels better now that that's all out. Everyone who's been through this says that you forget about the pain and annoyances as soon as you hold that baby for the first time. While I believe them, it is hard to see past the hear and now. Y'know? I will get through this, it's only another 2 1/2 months. (Eek!) So all you pre-pregnant women out there...read this and be warned: you will hurt!
PS: Matt's helpful suggestions to these problems are as follows: kick my asleep feet, have me rub his back, and poke the baby in the forehead until he moves from underneath my ribs. At least he makes me giggle!

Week 27 Day 6
hum... What to update?
1. My belly has grow leaps and bounds. As well as kicked leaps and bounds. Matt has casually laid his arm across my belly at bedtime and the baby has straight out kicked him! Priceless!
2. I now officially have 2 dates set for showers and I am So EXCITED!
3. Thursday morning I woke up feeling INCREDIBLY ill. I later was told that I had heartburn. I had never experienced heartburn before...o my! It is HORRIBLE. It feels like I swallowed battery acid and then coming back up was so, so bad. Thankfully I work in a nursing home and there are lots of antacids on hand. I ate half a bottle of Tums that day. However, I think that I got it because I had eaten a lot of spicy food throughout the day, and I went to bed about an hour after eating some of the said spicy food. It has not returned since, and I pray that it will back off!!
4. Northeast Ohio is currently at her best, because it is freezing!! And I am waaaayyyy too cheap to turn on the heat this early. So, I am currently sitting here with my scrubs, 2 sweatshirts, normal sock, and thermal socks on.
5. Finally. My cats are driving me crazy. Anyone want a cat or two?!? The kitten has an appointment for his removal of claws and bawls (heehee!) on my birthday. Hopefully that will calm him down. Or at least make him mad enough at me to stop begging for food and attention! But then, after he gets done making me furious, he does the most adorable things:

Week 27 Day 2
So, last night, dinner time:
Matt: Well, honey what do you want to do for dinner before we go to Bill's?
Elizabeth: Whatever you want because I'm not to hungry right now.
M: You're not hungry?! Why?! What's wrong?!
E: I ate a little while ago and I don't think I could eat again right now. Maybe on our way home...
M: Hang on. (Goes to fridge. Looks inside. Pulls out a jar of chocolate frosting. Brings it over to me and waves it under my nose.) There now give it a few minutes, and you'll be hungry. Think about what you want. (Replaces frosting)
E: Now I just want chocolate frosting!
M: (Rolls his eyes)
I really do love him!

Week 26 Day 6
This is me at 26 weeks. It actually turned out to be a good picture!
Tonight me and April went baby shopping. I think April secretly wants a girl, because she kept picking up adorable dresses and shoes, saying "Awe! Look how cute this is!" Also, I guarantee that before he comes, April will buy her nephew a "Santa's Helper" outfit. Oi-Vay. We had fun though! I did make one (yes, only one...!) purchase that I decided that I could not live without:

Week 26 Day 2
So, just got back from the doctors. Figured you guys would want an update...:) He said everything looks good. Weight's fine, measurement's fine, heartbeat's good. See, we got this thing. Easy as pie. I told him that I was tired, and he kinda scoffed at my schedule (who doesn't anymore?). He said if I have anymore problems at work as far as administrative BS, to let him know and he'll get me something. (whether that means get me another letter, get me outa there, or get me a new job, I don't really know...) And he reassured me that my anemia is not bad. I'm just low enough to cause concern and that if I happen to skip a pill once in awhile, it won't be detrimental. He said for being 26 weeks (!!) I'm looking good. Gold star for Elizabeth!
I was talking to classmates yesterday and we figured out that there are approximately 10 weeks left of class. Which means there are about 12 weeks left of pregnancy. That was a WOW moment. 12 weeks. 3 months. WOW. (That also means that Christmas is just under 12 weeks away for all you early shoppers...Get a movin'!)
Also, my dad just posted pictures of the cradle, so I stole them to share with you. It's amazing isn't it?! I love it! It's hard to believe that in a few short months, I will actually use it!

Week 25 Day 5
I dragged Matt and Bekah to Babies R Us last night. The plan was to start a registry, but the lady already had a couple at her desk and I was not waiting for her to finish! So, we spend our time instead destroying the store displays in efforts to find the best product for our baby. I swear I'm a complete dummy sometimes, playing with baby equipment did not help matters at all. Matt and I played with the car seat for like 20 minutes (trying to remove it from it's base) until Rebekah came over and showed us which level to pull. She's a genius, I swear! We wandered around the store for a while and picked out the "big" items so I could come home and start our registery at my own speed. Then we gushed at the cute clothes (all pertaining somehow it camo or "outdoors"ness) and the bibs with cleaver sayings on them ("Spit Happens"). The registery is up and running, although I do not know if it's complete. I will prolly add or subtract items as this goes along (more adding than subtracting rest assured...) Anyways, you can go to BabiesRUs.com and search for us in the baby registery.
This leads to my dilemma. Should I just register there? Especially since it's not a "local" store? But I don't want to have two registeries and confuse everyone and/or get duplicates of things I will never use. Opinions are welcome.
Also, to all you mothers out there who have done this before. If my list looks bear or if you had something that you just would not have been able to live without that I should have also, please let me know! All comments, complaints, questions and opinions will be taken here, through e-mail, or on Facebook/Myspace.
Thanks Guys!

Week 25 Day 3
On my way home from work I received a voicemail from my doctor's office, so of course, this immediately sets in the panic mode. (Especially since I had that bloodwork done on Friday...) The nurse calmly informs me that my blood sugar is good ( YEA!! ) but my iron level dropped a little more, enough to the point where I have to take iron pills. I know I shouldn't complain, because I'm lucky that's all that's wrong. But do you realize that iron pills make you constipated. Elizabeth has had too much difficulty with regular bowel movements the past few months to add more grief. (Too Much Information, I know. Sorry!)
On a brighter note: I was over my mom and pop's last night, and my dad has the baby's cradle almost done!! It is so pretty, guys! My dad is super talented as it is, but being that it's for the first grandbaby and all, it's pretty freakin' special. I tried real hard not to sob when he was showing it to me. When it's all finished, I will post a picture for all to see. (Pre-baby. Since you all will see it with the baby in it. Right? :) )
I've been "shopping" online at Babies R Us. Reading parent reviews (btw, there are some stupid people out there...) and that sort of thing. My wishlist is humongo. Seriously.

Week 24 Day 6
On Tuesday when I went to the doctor, he kindly reminded me about this little "sugar test" that I need to have done between then and the next time I see him (2 weeks, again.) So I went Friday morning before I had to be at the Writing Center. Now, friends have warned me about this test, so I was somewhat prepared for the Kool-Aid type drink and the hour long wait. It wasn't as bad as I had psyched myself up for. The wait was horrible, and the drink leaves a very bad aftertaste and you cannot drink or eat anything during your hour wait. I don't think I'll get the results until I go back to see the doc, and I really hope I'm diabetic free.
On other areas of interest:
The cat is getting de-clawed and de-nutted by the end of the month. End of Story. I am tired of him being hyper and scratching at everything, especially my neck/chest/hand/wrist/ankle.
School is going great so far. I knocked out one big assignment/test which was a huge weight off my shoulders. It's tough, but I am enjoying the challenge.
Work is not going so well. That's all.
I've had 3 different people tell me this week (2 in one day!) that I'm walking funny. I don't think so, but then again, my feet are looking a little shorter...

Week 24 Day 2
Six months everybody!
I just got back from the doctor. You should be happy to know that I've gained 3 pounds in 2 weeks. Total preggers gain is 13lbs. (The ice cream and cereal before bed must be working... ;) ) The baby's heartbeat is super strong, the doc was impressed. Not much else to report there.
My mind has officially left me. I had to call my mom today because I forgot what a "baby doctor" was called. I kept going from pediatric doctor to podiatrist. Definitely not the same thing! I am constantly forgetting names or places. I asked Matt to put something in the freezer the other day and I lost my train of thought and ended up just pointing to the refrigerator saying "You know, that thing, you know!!" So, so bad. I'm not sure if my memory loss is played up because of the crazy amount of studying I must do for some of my classes, but I'm going to blame most of it on Baby. Why not, he gets blamed for most everything else!
Fingers crossed: We might have come to some-sort of baby name compromise. I cannot disclose any more information for fears of jinxing it, but Matt and I now have a list of names. It's a small list, but still! We both agree on the names on the list so now we just have to narrow it down. Yea!

Week 23 Day 6
It is the strangest thing to be reclining on the couch and suddenly see a section of skin on your belly poke out. Like, poking a deflated balloon with the blunt end of a pencil. And then it happens again, but this time it's a succession of pokes. You cannot help but sit there mesmerized at the life inside you. That within itself is a little "Twilight Zone"-ish. I know I'm strange. But this all happened when I was home by myself (of course no one was around to witness this...!!) and I tend to over think things. Too much. And then emotions/hormones (call them what you will) get in the way.

Week 23 Day 3
I have to say that I feel blessed. Even though I am overwhelmed with school and baby and such, there are the little moments when I have to sit back and say "Aw!" Last night for example. Matt comes home from work and states: you'll never believe what I got today. Of course he loves to hold me in suspense, and makes me guess, etc. Well, apparently he had told a customer of his that we were expecting a baby last week, and yesterday said customer stopped by the office with some baby gifts for us! It was the sweetest, most unexpected thing. I guess this couple are the retired-type who are very generous and loving. They are constantly offering Matt lunch and drinks when he is working on their computer. She handmade the receiving blanket and embroidered the bibs with cute little designs and sayings (Matt's favorite is the "Party. 2AM. My Crib. BYOB."!) I really want to meet this couple now to say thank you in person and share in the "baby joy!" I just wanted to share my smile!

Week 23 Day 2
Well, it has been a busy and semi-stressful week. I say semi-stressful because I have a feeling it's only about to get worse. I cannot wait until December! School has started again, so I am working 32 hours at the nursing home, working 6 hours at the Writing Center, and spending about 15 hours just in class. I know, I know. That's a lot. I won't tell if you won't...
This weekend, Matt and I went through a "nesting" period together. Within our upstairs are 3 bedrooms and an office; and between Saturday and Sunday nights, we overhauled two of the bedrooms. Completely. Embarrassing to say, they were kinda dirty and were filled with junk. So we tossed and moved and cleared and cleaned our little heart away. Now I have two clean, organized bedrooms that I can walk through, even if I can't reach the hand-me-down baby clothes. (Thanks, honey. They're buried in the closet!)
The baby is continuing to practice his acrobatics. His kicks have gotten strong enough to occasionally feel outside now too! Matt felt him move once. The response was "That wasn't the baby...it was just your stomach muscles spasming!" (Gotta love him!) Bekah, on the other hand, felt the little guy multiple times. And even though I don't think she was exactly thrilled about my capturing her hand to my stomach, her reactions were a little more believable than Mateo's.
And for all of those who have asked...here's what pregnant looks like (on Elizabeth at least).
Hopefully I will have a much better picture soon!

Week 22 Day 2

fetus in fifth month
Fetal development in pregnancy week 22:The grow must go on! No wonder you’re getting so big, you’re now housing a wonder-baby who weighs nearly a pound and measures nearly a foot in length. Their perfect little pancreas is now further developed and they’ve also started producing their own hormones! Your baby's future in the circus as a world-famous tight-rope-walker is secure: their inner ear is now developed to the point that they have their own sense of balance. Lucky for your little explorer, balance also promotes physical dexterity, which has them actively feeling out their surroundings where skin, body parts, and the resident umbilical cord are the big sensory experiences. Your foot-long baby, is looking a bit like an oversized raisin right now as more and more wrinkles are showing up each week. Not to worry, all that excessive wrinkling is just their skin’s way of planning ahead for the time when they’ll start piling on that irresistible baby chub. (http://pregnancy.baby-gaga.com/calendar/week22)
Y'all show really read the ticker at the base of the page as well. Hilarious!
I went to the doctor today. I do have to say that it was the quickest all-around trip I've had to see him yet! It was scheduled for 3:45 and I was outa there by 4:15. Yea! I haven't "gained" anymore weight (still at 131), but the baby has "popped". There is a definite belly, however small it may be. And he told me to schedule my glucose test. I was a little worried that he had forgotten about this, but he told me that he wanted it at 24 weeks. So, I can breathe easy, at least until I have to actually drink the yucky stuff.
Also, my darling husband has passed his Fall cold to me now, so I discussed that with the Doc, too. Apparently Vicks rub is okay, so I didn't need to make the mad-dash that I did to the sink last night to wash it off. He suggested TheraFlu. Anybody used this? Does it actually work? Doc said it works great and is safe for baby, but if it doesn't work at all then I will just suffer through. But I see him again in 2 weeks, partly to watch my weight and partly because of this cold complication.
My son has a sense of humor, because no matter how much I coax him, he will not do power-kicks when Matt is around. But when the Doc was checking his heartbeat, he whacked the Doppler-thingy. Doc & I was like "whoa!" The little booger won't listen to me already!

Week 22 Day 1
AUGH! Five and a half months. Today!
So, today started the new fall semester at Kent. My brain is fried. I had two 3hour lectures back-to-back today. Mondays are going to be rough. But, I informed my instructors about the little bambino, and they both were will to work with me. One of my instructors I had last year, and she was really excited for me and starting telling me all the things I wasn't going to be doing this semester. Things like ultrasounds and e-stem and hot packs and not laying on my belly or back...the list goes on. But she, again, told me that I don't look like I'm 5 months pregnant. But then I went to the Post Office, and my favorite postal worker told me that he could finally see my belly through my empire waist shirt. So, I guess I'm not looking just fat anymore!!
And for those of you who have asked...I will work on the pictures. Now that there is something there (however small it may be), there is a reason for pictures. However, when I go to think about it or when I'm actually looking cute enough for pictures, there is no one or no camera around to take it. So...there's the dilemma.

Week 21 Day 3
I have to tell you the conversation that my darling husband and I had last night. I think "the birthing" process dawned on him or something because he has never really said anything like this before. But in typical Matt fashion, it was all very blunt and descriptive. Therefore, the following conversation may be a little graphic or inappropriate for some viewers, I ask your apologies ahead of time! But it's too funny/precious not to post!
(laying in bed, no prior conversation)
Matt: So, I'm glad you have to push that thing out of your vagina, and not me.
Elizabeth: What!?!?
M: Yeah, 'cuz it's really going to hurt.
E: What gives you that idea?
M: Well, I imagine it feels something like having your arm cut off with a machete.
E: I don't think the pain's quite like that...
M: Ok, then. (pause) Imagine the worst dump you've ever had and multiply that by like a million. It's like that.
E: Yeah. Right. Thanks, honey.
M: Well, I'm just glad it's not me.
E: You're going to be there. I'm not even going to let you go pee until he comes out.
M: Nu-uh. Not me.
E: Oh, really?! And where will you be?
M: That depends. If it's New Years Eve or something...
E: Oh! NO! You will be right there experiencing this pain with me.
M: Well, your mom said she would be there.
E: No she didn't!! When did she say that?!
M: Well...she would say that. If you asked her.
E: Nope, Babe. You're going to be there.
M: Yep, I'm going to be there.
That was pretty much the gist of it. I truly love my husband.

Week 21 Day 2
So. I did it. I went shopping. And came back with 4 pairs of pants and 2 shirts. All for quite the bargain thanks to my mom's gut and a little store called "Once Upon a Child". I really could have spent a lot more at a maternity store we shopped in for a little while--adorable clothing, ridiculous prices. (well, ridiculous in my mindset that I will only wear these clothes for 4 months.) I cannot figure out how to work my camera's timed picture setting thing, or else I'd take pictures (*gasp!*) for your viewing pleasure. I'll just tell you that one outfit is adorable, one is okay, and they all are comfortable! Comfort is vitally important I realized, even if your pants look like "old lady pants" or "6 year old boy pants". (yes, that's what they look like...)
My lower abdominal muscles hurt. The baby must be going through a growth spurt or kicking extra or something, because it hurts like you've done 100 sit-ups without the effort or results.
I've also developed a new fear. A couple actually-one is just silly, the other really worries me. Okay: #1 I'm afraid of going over hills in the car. In town there is a spot where you go over -freshly paved- railroad tracks and then another hill that's just like railroad tracks (you all know where I'm talking. Well, it freaks me out. It's like the usual stomach-in-throat-topsy-turvy feeling just magnified by like 1000. It almost makes me physically ill. And then there's the Woodman Ave. hill. HORRIBLE!
#2 is I'm worried that after the baby's born I won't be able to sleep. You know they say "sleep when the baby sleeps" or whatever. My fear is that since I am such a heavy sleeper, I won't wake up when the baby wakes up. They say that it changes and that you become a much lighter sleeper, but what if? What if I don't hear the baby? What if something happens? See, all this will be running through my mind as I lay down, and I will not be able to fall asleep. Any tips, heavy sleeper moms?

Week 20 Day 6
I am currently sitting here listening to a mix cd that I made eons ago. Right now our wedding song ("Open Arms" by Journey) is playing. I swear, songs make me cry. And people at work seem to capitalize on that fact by playing me or reminding me of the sappiest songs possible. "Wait for Me" by Joe Nichols is the WORST! Baby-sized tears down the cheeks everytime!
ANYways...
Thursday was our wedding anniversary. We both kinda forgot. Yep. We're bad. I don't know if it was just everything going on or what, but I realized it like halfway through the morning and texted Matt. He was incredibly sweet though, because even though he had a horrendous day, he still managed to stop on the way home and get me a present! *Awe* (see pre-post about Elizabeth and presents) I really have to give him kudos because even though I've been unpredictably crabby, he has been the calmest, sweetest thing. We were on our way home last night (it was late -- bout 11pm), and I must have been really moody. (I was...) He finally sid, "Sweetie, you're doing that thing you do when you get tired where you ask me if I love you, and then you snap at me. Just calm down we're almost home so you can go to sleep." I worked. I shut up and then thanked him when we got home. I feel so bad for him sometimes, because I go through emotions like one goes through dirty sock. I blame it on the extra testosterone.

Week 20 Day 2
So, I went to the doctor yesterday. I didn't have to sit in the waiting room as long as last time, but I was there 45 minutes before I actually saw the doc himself. *YAWN* As long as he doesn't take his good ol' time when the baby's about ready to come out, I'm fine. Anyways, he was very happy with my weight gain (6 more pounds, which brings the total up to 10 lbs!), and said everything looked/sounded perfect. Again. I like that word. He asked about work, how it was going, if I was lifting. He didn't mention "light duty" yet, but I am hoping soon...
I also heard some disturbing news from a reliable source that my doc is a little C-section happy. That worries me a little, because as much as I want this child to be on time, if not early, I don't want a C-section. My source said just be firm with him, and unless it is medically vital, I want to go natural. I think I can handle that. I informed Matt (who was sitting right there for the conversation) to abide by those rules if I am completely psycho by that point.
I dragged the poor guy out to the mall in search of pants because I am getting tired of unbuttoning the top button on my jeans constantly. I found some nice stretchy yoga pants that will work (not too tight, not too loose), and Matt insists that they don't look like sweatpants/pajama pants at all. I do not want to be one of those pregnant girls who loses all control of her closet and wears nothing but ill-fitting pajama bottoms and tank tops that ride up. I want to maintain my appropriate dress, all while maintaining optimal comfort. And without buying maternity clothes too soon.

Week 19 Day 4
So I just got out of a meeting with my adviser at school about the whole being pregnant thing. I was super nervous that he would just look at me cross-eyed and tell me that I was crazy and never to come back. Luckily, he was very supportive, and he gave me suggestions to give me a heads-up for the next year or so. He also said that they could postpone my first set of clinicals so that way I could have February off with the baby. I'd still have to got to class starting January 13th, but he said even then they might be able to work with me a little. So basically we got a skeletal outline for a plan down and we'll play the details by ear. Personally, I hate playing things by ear - I'd much rather have a plan - but it'll work. He did say that it will prolly be the most challenging thing I've ever done, and that he doesn't want me taking away from any of the joy/excitement of this being my first pregnancy, but I will really have to work hard at everything. Understood, Willing and Able.
Moving on...
This is the nursery set that Matt and I -big shocker here, brace yourselves!- agreed on. I think it's adorable, and Matt really likes the mobile. "He'll definitely be a fisherman now" I think were his exact words! Lucky for me, it's located at 3 spots (Babies R Us, Walmart, and Target--hint,hint ;) ), so hopefully it will not be discontinued by December. *Fingers crossed*

It is so hard not to buy everything baby. I look online at cute, cute stuff and automatically think I need to buy this now. They won't have it in a couple months, look at the great sale! Being poor kinda helps ward off any double-clicking on the "shopping cart" button, but still! That's why Americans have credit cards, right?! (JUST KIDDING!!)

Week 19 Day 2
I wasn't really going to post anything, but then I read the ticker at the bottom of the page. It changes every week with the baby's height and weight and a little funny blurb. Well, read it for 19 weeks, it says: only 20 more weeks until mommy can have that strong margarita. YEA!! It knows me sooooo well!! I have really only eaten at Los Compadres once since May, which is ridiculous because we used to go every week. I could try a virgin margarita, but I just don't think it would be the same. So just 20 more weeks, girls...
On the same hand, only 20 more weeks...?!?!? Naw, it can't be coming that fast! That means I'm half way through. (Well, duh, Elizabeth half of 9 months is 4 1/2!) There are days when I wish it would come faster, but as I was reminded, this is my first. I want to enjoy it. I am going to want to remember all of this so I can torture my little one on his birthday with annoying stories. And so I can talk myself out of doing this again. (HaHa, kidding on that last one!) So, this is really a lesson to me in patience, this isn't something I can hurry and rush because I want it. I have to lay back (& not fall asleep), relax, and simply enjoy all the ups and downs of the next 4 1/2 months.
That does not mean I won't still be fighting certain issues such as photographing Elizabeth.

Week 18 Day 6
For all those who do not know, I have always been a little -er- ditsy. You know, being naive, not catching on, saying really stupid stuff at really stupid times. Going hand-in-hand with this is my natural instinct of clumsiness - tripping over things, falling down stairs, etc. Weeelll, this pregnancy thing has really upped both those traits.
Take yesterday, for example. We were over my pastor's house for a picnic/get together, and I was in charge of holding Matteo's keys & cell phone while he played volleyball. Well, somehow when we were preparing to leave, Matt noticed his keys were missing. I swore up and down that I had handed them to him at the same time I handed him his cell phone. Apparently not, because the pastor found them (in the dark, mind you!) down in the yard where I was previously sitting! Don't I feel really dumb!
I also have discovered that one bucket cheek (yes, you read that right!) is hugely bruised, while the other is perfectly normal. How did this happen, because I do not remember being kicked/hit/fallen at ALL!! See, two brains is not alway better than one! I think the baby will be a genius because he is stealing all my brain cells!
No one warned me about this...

Week 18 Day 3
Is not my little sister the best? She genuinely cares about the important things in life like what on earth is my little boy going to wear come football season 2009? Thanks to his *favoritest* aunt, he is all set! Let's go Steelers!
So, I broke down today and I dug up a hair band to wrap around the button of my jeans. My favorite jeans are no longer my favorite jeans. While it gives me the extra room I need to feel comfortable, I am now extremely paranoid that my zipper will not stay up. And since I do have to look presentable for class tonight, my care bear pajama bottoms will simply not work. (Mom, I think that safety pin would actually work a lot better...)

Week 18 Day2
So my sister just called and said she had a present for the baby. It's the baby's first present! And if he's anything like his mother, he is going to LOVE presents. Needless to say, I am super stoked and really think that she should hurry her bum over here...
Moving on...
I promised you all ultrasound pictures, and here they are!
Like I said, the ultrasound tech was AMazing, and she put little arrows and captions at important parts (no, the arrows are not mine...;) ) I'll put some captions for those of you who don't know what's up from down (like me!).
I really do not think there is much needed to be said
about this one. If you can't tell, you are looking at his
bum, and his legs are spread. Definitely a Boy!
Matthew was a proud daddy and took the pictures with him to work yesterday. He's so darn cute sometimes.
This morning before class I had a Harbor Smoothie from that little delicious gem on Bridge Street. About 30 minutes after I finished the banana/strawberry/orange juice goodness, the baby went CRAZY! Right on schedule. This is the second time that I've treated myself before class, and it's the second time he's put a lot of effort into 'Chuck Norris'-ing my insides. I'm assuming that it means that he really likes it, but it is an odd sensation to be trying not to fall asleep in class and having popcorn popping in your stomach.
On the subject of feeling movements, I feel him rather regularly and randomly (I know that really doesn't make sense!) now. Matt still insists that I just have gas. For the record, that problem is gone! (Oooo...bad story from the beginning of the pregnancy and my body's initial reactions to the prenatal vitamins. Matt came to bed with a can of Febreeze!)
That wraps it up for now. I do have to say that I'm rocking this regular posting thing!

Catching up on the past 17 weeks
Well, since I spend so much time on the computer, and my now favorite thing is telling stories about my baby and my pregnancy, I figured "Why not start a blog?" I'm putting a disclaimer out there that I probably will not update it on a regular or even a semi-regular basis, and I may get bored and give it up completely before this 9 months is over. But, hey, don't get discouraged! I will try my darned-est and I have plenty of people out there to bug me for blog updates (you know who you are out there...keep on me!)
ANYways...for those of you who don't know, or just for a refresher: I am 18 weeks pregnant with my first baby! The current due date is December 28-30 (somewhere in there...). Hopefully the baby decides to be good and come about a week and a half early (just to please mommy of course!). We just found out that the baby's a boy. Yea! Both Matt and I were not-so-secretly hoping that it'd be a little boy, and we got lucky! (Hopefully soon I'll be able to put the ultrasound pictures up for you guys).
Speaking of ultrasound, besides feeling the baby move (another story for another time), the ultrasound is by far the coolest thing you will ever experience in your life (thus far anyways...). My little guy is VERY active, and to see him move around and make unproductive kicks was soooo cool! My ultrasound tech was an amazing woman, and she took the time to explain everything she was measuring and photographing. She pointed out his "important" parts (some of which need no explanation), and you could actually see his heart pumping blood and his bladder emptying out (lucky guy...mine was still full!). Since I have no "visible" belly (I swear it's there!!), seeing him in there just validated everything.
So, I think it's time for lunner (meal between lunch and dinner). Yes, I eat ALL THE TIME! It's a wonder I have only gained 4 pounds!
